Jakarta 2012 Minimun Wage for Workers

The Jakarta government has announced a new minimum wage law for workers in Jakarta province. The raise in minimum wage starts from a moderate of 6% to a high of 30% for different sectors of the labor market.

Here is the breakdown on the new minimum wages according to 2012 Jakarta Province Sectoral Minimum Wages (UMSP) -

1) Banking and Financial Services - Rp 1,987,895 - up 30%
2) Communication Services - Rp 1.987.895 - up 30%
3) Electronics, Machinery & Metal sector - Rp 1,727,940 - up 13%
4) Automotive sector - Rp 1,773,814 - up 13%
5) Energy, Chemical and Mining - 1,697,357 - up 11%
6) Food & Beverage - Rp 1,682,065 - up 10%
7) Health & Pharmacy - Rp 1.615.482 - up 8%
8) Textiles, Apparels and Leather - Rp 1.636.191- up 7%
9) Tourism - Rp 1.620.899- up 6%
10) Public Works & Development - Rp 93,551 up to Rp 143.221 per day

Personally, I liked to see a higher wage increase for workers in the health, transportation and tourism industry - so that it can attract and retain better workers. I think these workers deserve a wage increase of at least 10% - on par with the Food & Beverage sector workers.

I believe most people in Jakarta would want to see a better health care system; and also a more efficient transport system. Both of these services in Jakarta are below average in performance index. In fact everyone are aware that the Jakarta transport system is in a mess - a major revamp is badly needed. The health and transport sectors in Jakarta needs to attract more educated and service oriented workers; so as to improve the level of service in this 2 sectors.
